Call for Applications: MICHR Faculty Research Fellow

The Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research (MICHR) is announcing a call for applications for the 2026-2027 MICHR Faculty Research Fellow. The MICHR Faculty Research Fellowship is open to U-M faculty of any rank and any track and provides 15% effort of base salary and benefits up to the applicable NIH cap for 1 year (10/1/26 – 9/30/27; dates can be negotiated).

Approximately 80% of clinical trials fail to meet their recruitment goals. This means few clinical trials testing new treatments enroll enough participants to either accept or reject their underlying hypotheses. MICHR seeks to understand the impact of participant compensation on clinical trial recruitment and retention. The project is using quantitative and qualitative methodologies to evaluate approaches to participant compensation. The ultimate goal is to generate and publish in the research literature generalizable knowledge that will inform practices nationally. The study team consists of faculty investigators with background experience in clinical trial design and execution, survey methodology, qualitative methodology, IRB regulations, and medical ethics. The faculty fellow would join the study team and engage in hypothesis generation, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.

For this fellowship, desired interest and/or experience for applicants might include:

  1. Clinical trialists interested in developing strategies to improve the success of NIH-sponsored clinical trials
  2. Researchers with a scholarly background involving human subjects research and/or learning health sciences
  3. Investigators with an interest in research ethics or human subjects research regulatory compliance considerations
