Collaborative research, which includes Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) and Community Engaged Research (CEnR), is a process to address community priorities and issues such as health disparities. After participating in this session, attendees will be able to discuss:

  • the rationale for this type of research
  • the continuum of community engagement
  • phases for partnership formation, maintenance, & sustainability
  • the benefits & challenges of conducting collaborative research

Presentations by:

CHRIS COOMBE, PhD, MPH, is an Associate Research Scientist in Health Behavior and Health Equity and works with the Detroit Community-Academic Urban Research Center (Detroit URC), a longstanding community-based participatory research (CBPR) partnership.

SHERITA SMITH, MPA, is Senior Vice President of Cinnaire Community Connection at Cinnaire Advancing Communities. Sherita has over 20 years of substantial CBPR partnerships and serving Detroit neighborhoods in housing, community development, and engagement.
