Who?

Any senior postdoctoral fellow or early-career faculty in the first few years of their appointment with a full-time appointment at U-M. To promote a strong workforce, individuals with varied lived experiences who conduct translational science research are encouraged to apply.

What is this offering?

Building Up is a campus-wide program that provides multidisciplinary mentorship and competency-based career development for early-career health science researchers. This program includes in-person career development training, networking opportunities, and content needed for a successful research career in health related or biomedical research. It is well-suited for those seeking to develop their career skills and engage in networking opportunities at the University of Michigan.

Eligibility for the Building Up program:

  • Postdoctoral research fellows within the first 3 years of their appointment at U-M (Ann Arbor, Flint, or Dearborn campuses) or at a U-M partner or affiliated institution (e.g., Michigan State University) or
  • Early career faculty (any track) pursuing careers involving research and within the first 6 years of their faculty appointment.
  • Hold a doctoral degree in the health sciences (MD, PhD, PharmD, DDS, etc.).
  • Have an appointment that will allow for protected time for career development activities.

Application requirements:

  • a current CV or Biosketch
  • a brief statement, 1-3 paragraphs, on why you are interested in participating in the Building Up mentored career development program
  • a letter of support from your primary mentor or department chair that includes a statement confirming protected time for career development activities during the course of the Building Up program
